MUSCAT : His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Mansour Al Ghafeeli, Governor of Al Jabal Al Akhdar, said one of the most prominent ongoing projects is the development of the wilayat’s main entrance and the dualisation of the primary road, which is nearing completion of the consultancy phase. The programme also includes paving several internal roads and awarding additional road projects, strengthening traffic safety, improving road efficiency and easing access to residential and tourist destinations across the wilayat.

He noted that several service and community projects have already been completed, including Green Mountain Park, which serves as an urban recreational space enhancing residents’ well-being, and the Festivals and Celebrations Square, an integrated venue designed to host seasonal events. The square also supports entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises through dedicated service facilities that stimulate tourism and local economic activity.

The Governor added that the private sector is playing a growing role through a number of investment projects, most notably an integrated commercial complex in Hail Al-Yaman, comprising a three-star hotel, an educational park, an entertainment centre and a commercial market. These developments are expected to diversify tourism and leisure offerings for visitors.

Additional private investments include an open 3D technology field in Saih Qatna, Daan Al-Busaiteen Park, and the operation of Saih Qatna Park, which features recreational facilities, a restaurant and a mountain overlook that capitalises on the area’s distinctive natural landscape.

Highlighting strategic developments, H.E. Sheikh Sultan described the High Mountain Tourist City as one of the most ambitious projects in Al Jabal Al Akhdar, with construction and investment costs estimated at RO 1.2 billion. Spanning more than 11.8 sq km at an altitude of around 2,400 metres above sea level, the project will include over 2,500 residential units for approximately 10,000 residents, a hotel complex with more than 2,000 rooms, the region’s highest golf course covering about 1.5 million sq metres, and more than 10 architectural, cultural and tourism landmarks.

The project is designed around sustainability and the green economy, incorporating renewable energy solutions and smart, low-emission transport systems. It is also expected to generate employment, support the local economy, and include a cable car linking Al Dakhiliyah and South Al Batinah governorates, improving access to this key tourism destination.

H.E. Sheikh Sultan concluded by stressing that Al Dakhiliyah Governorate remains committed to projects that respect the unique mountain environment, deliver high added value, diversify income sources, and create sustainable employment, particularly in tourism and SME-related sectors.
