Oman’s energy sector sees production gains despite lower oil prices

Oman’s oil and gas sector posted modest production growth by the end of November, even as global price pressures weighed on revenues.

MUSCAT : Oman’s oil production rose by 0.4% to 333.940 million barrels by the end of November, compared with 332.693 million barrels in the same period of 2024. Total oil exports also recorded a marginal increase of 0.1%, reaching 282.339 million barrels, up from 282.1 million barrels a year earlier.

Average daily oil production climbed by 0.7% to 999.8 thousand barrels per day, compared with 993.1 thousand barrels per day during the same period last year. However, the average price of a barrel declined sharply to $71.6, down from $81.8 in the corresponding period of 2024.

Natural gas production, including domestic output and imports, exceeded 52 billion cubic metres, marking a 0.6% increase year-on-year. Associated gas production rose strongly by 11%, reaching 11.7 billion cubic metres, compared with 10.5 billion cubic metres last year. In contrast, non-associated gas production, including imports, fell by 2.1% to 40.3 billion cubic metres, down from 41.2 billion cubic metres.

Gas consumption across sectors showed mixed trends. Usage in oil fields and related industrial activities, including industrial zones, Oman Mining and Oman Cement Company, increased by 9.4% to 12.4 billion cubic metres. Gas consumption at power plants rose by 1.4% to over 14.2 billion cubic metres, while gas used in industrial areas surged by 11.6% to 255.9 million cubic metres. Meanwhile, gas consumption in industrial projects declined by 3.6% to 25.5 billion cubic metres.

In the downstream sector, refinery output recorded robust growth. Total refinery products increased by 11.4% by the end of November, while motor fuel production during November 2025 alone rose by 7.9% compared to the previous month.

Production of regular motor fuel (91) climbed by 17.5% to 15.6 million barrels, with sales rising 1% to 13.9 million barrels. Premium motor fuel (95) output increased by 21% to 13 million barrels, while sales grew by 2.1% to 12.4 million barrels.

Gas oil (diesel) production rose by 11.7% to 31.6 million barrels, and sales increased by 7.1% to 13.8 million barrels. In contrast, jet fuel production declined by 9% to 9.4 million barrels, with sales slipping 3.5% to 3.5 million barrels.

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) output rose sharply by 14.5% to 7.3 million barrels, while LPG sales surged by 23.2% to 3.5 million barrels.

Petrochemical production also posted strong gains. Gasoline output edged up by 0.9% to 158.2 thousand metric tonnes, paraxylene production increased by 10.8% to 534.9 thousand metric tonnes, and polypropylene production jumped by a significant 81.6% to 327 thousand metric tonnes, compared to 180 thousand metric tonnes a year earlier.
