MUSCAT : His Excellency Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, received His Excellency Kamel Al Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport of Egypt, at his office today. The meeting reviewed ways to revitalise bilateral investments between Oman and Egypt, including leveraging Egypt’s access to African markets through the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa to expand trade and investment opportunities.

Discussions also explored prospects for industrial integration in a number of promising sectors to maximise the benefits of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area. Both sides welcomed progress in fast-tracking memoranda of understanding aimed at unifying acceptance requirements for goods, products and services, as well as cooperation on anti-dumping measures, subsidies and safeguards, to strengthen economic and industrial ties. The ministers further agreed to establish a joint economic forum in coordination with the chambers of commerce in both countries.

The meeting was attended by His Excellency Dr. Saleh bin Saeed Masan, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Trade and Industry, and His Excellency Yasser Mohamed Ahmed Shaaban, Ambassador of Egypt to Oman.

Separately, Al Yousef met with a number of Egyptian business owners, during which he outlined investment opportunities and current and future projects in Oman. He stressed the need to move Omani-Egyptian economic relations to broader horizons based on joint manufacturing and export, enhancing added value, encouraging joint industrial projects in priority sectors, and facilitating the transfer of modern expertise and technologies.

Trade ties between the two countries continue to strengthen. During the first half of this year, the volume of trade exchange reached approximately RO 97.6 million. Omani imports from Egypt grew by 16.6 per cent to RO 44.3 million, while Omani exports to the Egyptian market stood at RO 53.3 million. The number of registered companies with Egyptian participation in Oman reached 4,647 as of November 2025, underscoring growing investor confidence between the two brotherly nations.
