MUSCAT: Oman will evaluate the return of stranded residents from abroad before the country plans to issue new tourist and work visas, according to the Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.
The Supreme Committee has allowed stranded residents to return to the country from October 1 after the Sultanate reopened its airports in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
“As of now we have not issued any new tourist or work visas. The issue of visas was discussed at the meeting of the Supreme Committee, and the door will be opened initially for citizens and residents who have a valid residence visa, and then their experience can be evaluated and whether it is possible to open the way for obtaining other visas to come to the Sultanate or not,” the Minister said.

Meanwhile, the Minister said those residents arriving in Oman from October 1 must obtain a valid international health insurance coverage for at least 30-days. “This should cover the cost of their Covid-19 treatment in the Sultanate if a situation arises,” he added.
