Nairobi: The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Korea signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries and develop cooperation in the fields of environment, climate change, and sustainable development. The signing took place on the sidelines of the Seventh Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

The MoU aims to establish a long-term partnership based on the principles of equality and mutual interests, which contributes to protecting the environment and ensuring the well-being of current and future generations. It also focuses on joint action, both bilaterally and multilaterally, to confront escalating global environmental challenges, reflecting the two sides’ commitment to elevating the environmental partnership and activating areas of joint cooperation.

The MoU was signed on the Omani side by Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, and on the Korean side by Kum Hanseung, Vice Minister of Climate, Energy, and Environment.

The MoU includes several key areas of cooperation, notably air quality management, water resource management and pollution, protecting biodiversity and combating desertification and halting land degradation, promoting the circular economy and waste management and recycling, developing responses to climate change, including carbon reduction technologies and adaptation infrastructure and supporting the transition towards the green economy, including hydrogen and green buildings.

The MoU outlines forms of cooperation, including the exchange of information and experts, staff training, development of joint projects, and organization of seminars and workshops, which will enhance the exchange of expertise between the two countries.
