MUSCAT : The reminder comes as part of the Ministry’s continued emphasis on enforcing occupational safety and health standards across various sectors.

Citing Article 15 of Oman’s Occupational Safety and Health regulations, the Ministry stated that employers, or their designated representatives, must take all necessary measures to provide adequate protection for workers and maintain safe working environments. The regulation outlines specific requirements aimed at reducing workplace hazards, particularly in areas involving drainage and floor ditches.

According to the regulations, all drainage and floor ditches must be equipped with rails at least one metre high and clearly marked with warning signs to alert workers. These ditches must also be covered with lids no higher than 2.5 centimetres above ground level. The edges of the ditches should slope at an angle not exceeding 30 degrees to prevent falls and ensure safe movement around the site.

The Ministry also highlighted that the lids covering these ditches must be strong enough to withstand the weight of machinery and vehicles that may pass over them, ensuring they do not collapse under pressure.
