MUSCAT — His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has conferred the Royal Commendation Order (First Class), one of the nation’s highest civilian honours, on Her Excellency Dr Madiha bint Ahmed Al Shaibani, Minister of Education, in recognition of her distinguished service and long-standing contributions to Oman’s education sector.

Dr Madiha, who has served as Minister of Education since 2011, received the honour during a ceremony at Al Baraka Palace, where a number of ministers and senior officials were decorated as part of the National Day observances.

A key architect of Oman’s modern education landscape, Dr Madiha has overseen major nationwide reforms, including curriculum modernisation, digital learning expansion, strengthened teacher-training programmes and upgrading of school infrastructure in line with the priorities of Oman Vision 2040. Her tenure has focused on improving learning quality, fostering innovation and deepening international partnerships.

Before assuming ministerial office, Dr Madiha held senior roles in educational planning, curriculum development and international cooperation. She has represented Oman in multiple global education platforms and helped build collaboration with organisations such as UNESCO and UNICEF.
