Oman’s refinery output rises nearly 10% as fuel and petrochemical production climbs

Oman posted a strong performance in its refinery and petrochemical sector in 2025, with total refinery output rising 9.9% by the end of September compared to the same period last year.

MUSCAT : According to NCSI, the production of regular 91-octane gasoline saw a significant 16.4% surge, reaching 12.7 million barrels by September 2025, up from 10.9 million barrels last year. Sales also grew by 1.5%, totaling 10.66 million barrels, while exports dipped by 21.1% to 1.9 million barrels.

Premium 95-octane fuel recorded even sharper production growth at 20.2%, reaching approximately 10.6 million barrels compared to 8.8 million barrels in 2024. Sales rose modestly by 1.4% to 10.1 million barrels, while exports more than doubled, soaring 117% to 1.24 million barrels.

Gas oil (diesel) output increased by 9.7% to 25.47 million barrels, accompanied by a 6.2% rise in sales and a 6.1% upturn in exports, which reached 13.39 million barrels.

In contrast, jet fuel production fell 9.2% to 7.75 million barrels, with sales down 4.9% and exports dropping 12.5% to 4.59 million barrels.

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) saw an 11.4% boost in production, reaching 5.75 million barrels. Sales climbed 20.2% to 2.8 million barrels, while exports dropped sharply by 45.5% to 167,300 barrels.

The petrochemicals segment also showed robust growth. Benzene production increased 5.2% to 137,700 metric tons, while paraxylene output rose 5.8% to 456,500 metric tons. Polypropylene booked the most dramatic rise, jumping 91.4% to 262,700 metric tons, though its sales slipped slightly by 2.7%.

Exports in the petrochemical category were equally strong. Benzene exports grew 5.6%, paraxylene exports surged 12.7%, and polypropylene exports soared 79.2% to reach 189,500 metric tons.
