Oman announces winners of 12th Sultan Qaboos Award for Culture, Arts and Literature

The Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science has announced the winners of the 12th Edition of the Sultan Qaboos Award for Culture, Arts and Literature.

MUSCAT – In the branch of culture, the first winner of the award was Aseelah Forum Foundation from Morocco, which topped the list of private cultural institutions.

In the field of arts, the award was won by sculptor Issam Mohamed Sayyed Darwish from Egypt, while author Hikmat Al Sabbagh, from Lebanon, merited the award set for the literature contest.
The Sultan Qaboos Competition for Culture, Arts and Literature is organised with the prime aim of celebrating intellectual and cognitive accomplishments.

The annual award aims to support outstanding intellectuals, artists and writers. It is dedicated exclusively for Omani contestants in one year. Omanis and other Arab contestants compete for the award in the next year.

As many as 466 candidates contest the 12th edition of the award.
His Excellency Habib Mohammed Al Riyami, Chairman of Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science, said that the Sultan Qaboos Award for Culture, Arts and Literature dealt with many tracks of soft power in the Sultanate of Oman over the years.


His excellency added that the centre seeks to present the civilization aspects of the Sultanate of Oman to the world. In the round dedicated to Omanis, the award aims to enhance local ambitions, while the next round (for Omanis and other Arabs) showcases Oman’s refined outreach beyond the country’s geographical boundaries, he explained.
