MUSCAT : Held under the patronage of Her Highness Dr. Mona bint Fahd Al Said, Honorary President of the Association, the event underscored the Sultanate’s growing leadership in global cancer awareness ahead of its hosting of the World Cancer Congress, Summit, and Exhibition in 2025.
The annual walk, now a hallmark community event, drew participants from all walks of life, citizens, residents, and visitors, alongside distinguished guests including Her Royal Highness Princess Dina Mired, former President of the Union for International Cancer Control, and His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Jaber Al Thani, President of the Qatar Cancer Society. Representatives from international and regional cancer organizations also joined the march, giving the event an international dimension.
Dr. Waheed bin Ali Al-Kharousi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Cancer Association, emphasized that the 21st edition of the walk reflects years of dedicated effort to promote cancer awareness in Oman. “The wide participation witnessed in the event is not just a number, but a message of solidarity and hope,” he said. “It reflects the spirit of cooperation that defines Omani society and shows that everyone stands united with patients and their families in their journey toward recovery.”

Dr. Al-Kharousi added that the Association aims to transform awareness from a slogan into a lived community practice, using public spaces as platforms for learning and humanitarian support.
The event featured a range of educational and recreational activities, including sessions on prevention and early detection, as well as sports and family-friendly programs that encouraged active, healthy lifestyles. Participants expressed joy at being part of the event, describing it as a powerful expression of human solidarity that reinforces health consciousness across society.
Families of cancer patients also shared heartfelt gratitude, saying the event’s overwhelming turnout offered emotional strength and a sense of shared purpose.
