MUSCAT – Building on the promise they showed at the Asia Cup in the UAE in September, Oman’s cricketers are gearing up for another major continental test as they head to Doha, Qatar, for the Rising Stars Asia Cup 2025.

Making his debut as captain, Hammad Mirza will lead a talented Oman side that blends experience with emerging talent in the tournament scheduled from November 14 to 23.

Organised by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), the event — formerly known as the Emerging Asia Cup — will showcase some of the continent’s most promising future stars.

Oman have been drawn in Group A alongside India, Pakistan, and United Arab Emirates (UAE), a familiar set of opponents they faced in the main Asia Cup just two months ago. Oman earned widespread praise then for their competitive performances, notably pushing India close in a memorable group-stage encounter.

The Oman squad reflects the country’s growing investment in youth development, with several potential T20I debutants including Sufyan Yousaf, Saishiv Narayan, Shafiq Jan, Mohammed Yousuf, Shuaib Al Balushi, Pruthvi Machhi, and Ubaidullah looking to make their mark in Doha. The match against UAE will be a T20I while the games against Pakistan and India A teams will be T20 games.

Group B features Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Hong Kong. Each team will play the others in their group once, with the top two progressing to the semi-finals. The winners of the semi-finals will meet in the final on November 23, concluding a ten-day competition designed to spotlight Asia’s next generation of cricketing talent.

Oman’s 15-member squad: Hammad Mirza (captain), Wasim Ali, Sufyan Yousaf (wk), Aryan Bisht, Saishiv Narayan, Zikria Islam, Hassnain Ali Shah, Shafiq Jan, Samay Shrivastava, Muzahir Raza, Mohammed Yousuf, Shuaib Ismail Al Balushi, Jay Odedra, Pruthvi Machhi, and Ubaidullah.

Support staff: Zeeshan Siddiqui (head coach), Vinod Mathews (manager), Amir Ali (assistant coach), Bashir Ahmad (masseur), and Saravanan T (physio).
