MUSCAT – The Oman Society for Astronomy and Space has announced that on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, the moon will reach its closest point to Earth, coinciding with its full phase. It will be approximately 356,000 kilometres from Earth – making it nearly 30,000 kilometres closer than usual.
“Get ready to enjoy observing the supermoon this evening, as the moon is at its closest point to Earth coinciding with its full phase,” the Society stated.
This alignment, known as the moon’s perigee, will make it appear approximately 14 percent larger and brighter than a typical full moon — marking the largest full moon of the year.

According to the Society, the moon will rise at 5:10 pm in the eastern sky, offering a captivating spectacle visible to the naked eye from all parts of the Sultanate. The best viewing times are during the moon’s rising and setting, when it appears most striking against the horizon.
Observers are advised to choose open areas with a clear view of the eastern horizon to fully appreciate the event.
This astronomical phenomenon is one of the highlights of November, providing a wonderful opportunity for photography enthusiasts and stargazers to observe and capture the fine details of the moon’s surface.
