MANAMA : Speaking at the high-profile forum hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain in cooperation with the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), His Excellency thanked Bahrain and the IISS for organizing what he described as a vital platform for dialogue and understanding among global and regional policymakers. He reiterated that the Sultanate of Oman remains committed to promoting peace and cooperation through diplomacy.

His Excellency highlighted Oman’s long-held belief that isolating Iran was counterproductive and that including Tehran within a regional security framework is essential to achieving stability. He noted that Iran has repeatedly demonstrated openness to dialogue and restraint in the face of provocations, including attacks against its assets and officials in Syria, Lebanon, and Tehran.
Referring to recent events, His Excellency revealed that nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States had made substantial progress across five rounds of talks earlier this year. However, he added that just before the sixth and potentially decisive round, Israel launched illegal military strikes against Iran, actions he said resulted in hundreds of civilian deaths and derailed the peace process. He condemned these attacks as violations of international law, asserting that “Israel, not Iran, remains the main source of insecurity in the region.”

Calling for a comprehensive and inclusive security architecture, His Excellency urged the formation of a regional framework that brings together all countries, including Iran, Iraq, and Yemen, to jointly address shared challenges such as maritime security, smuggling, and climate change.
He emphasized that exclusionary policies breed extremism, while inclusion builds trust and shared prosperity. “Oman will continue to champion dialogue as the only viable path toward lasting peace and stability,” he concluded.
The session was attended by senior foreign ministers and officials, including Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Dr. Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Greece’s Foreign Minister Georgios Gerapetritis, and the EU Envoy for Gulf Affairs, Luigi Di Maio.
