MUSCAT : This was stated during a press conference His Excellency Ravanchi held in Muscat on the sidelines of his visit to head the Iranian delegation at the Joint Strategic Consultations Committee between Oman and Iran.

Speaking at the Iranian Embassy in Muscat, Dr. Ravanchi clarified that the Omani Chargé d’Affaires in Tehran had not been summoned, but rather invited to clarify matters related to the recent bottled water poisoning incident in Iran.

In response to questions from media personnel, the Deputy Foreign Minister emphasised that the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs came within the framework of the ongoing political consultations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing Oman as the most important neighbouring and friendly country to Iran.

He noted that the two countries hold annual strategic consultation meetings, alternating between Muscat and Tehran, to discuss regional and international developments and exchange views on issues of common interest. “The visions between both sides are close on many regional and international issues,” he said.

His Excellency Dr. Ravanchi highlighted the distinguished relations between the two nations, citing growing economic cooperation and active tourism exchange. He added that the Iranian President’s recent visit to Oman led to the signing of several bilateral agreements, reflecting the shared determination of both leaderships to strengthen ties.

Addressing a question on the Iranian nuclear file, His Excellency Dr. Ravanchi said Iran had been engaged in negotiations when Israel launched an attack on Iran, describing it as a ‘clear betrayal’ of the negotiation process. He confirmed that the nuclear issue was discussed during the talks with the Omani side, reiterating Iran’s stance that dialogue must remain constructive and results should not be predetermined.
He added that the United States has not demonstrated readiness to negotiate on the principle of reciprocity, which, he said, ‘leaves no justification for continuing talks under the current circumstances.’
