SQU Hospital conducts first spinal neurostimulation device implantation in Oman

MUSCAT – The Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUH) has conducted Oman’s first spinal neurostimulation device implantation in the lower spine. The surgery was an advanced technique used to treat some complex urinary disorders. It was performed by Dr. Intisar Mohammed Al Hashmi, a Consultant Urologist in the Department of Surgery at SQUH in the University Medical City, with the participation of an integrated medical team.

The surgery, conducted in two stages that adhered to the latest international protocols, marks a breakthrough in the development of specialized urology services in the Sultanate of Oman.

This medical accomplishment embodies the University Medical City’s drive to introduce the latest therapeutic technologies into the national health system. It also reflects the University Medical City’s leading role in localizing and transferring innovative therapeutic technologies, enhancing the quality of healthcare services rendered to beneficiaries and consolidating the University Medical City’s status as a national centre of reference for medical education, research and health innovation, in line with the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
