DOHA — U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to meet Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani during a brief stopover in Doha as part of his Asian tour, before continuing on to Malaysia.
The United States and Qatar were among the key mediators of the recent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, though the truce remains fragile amid renewed Israeli airstrikes that have killed at least 93 people in Gaza since it began.
The meeting in Doha comes amid mounting international criticism of the Israeli Knesset’s vote to advance a bill annexing parts of the occupied West Bank, and growing appeals for the reopening of Gaza’s border crossings to allow humanitarian aid to flow into the enclave.
