MUSCAT : The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) has intensified inspections of gold retail outlets across Muscat to ensure that all jewellery items are properly hallmarked before being sold. The move aims to protect consumers and enhance transparency in the jewellery market.

Inspection teams are conducting visits to verify that retailers comply with national hallmarking standards and that all gold products meet required purity and authenticity levels.

The ministry reiterated that hallmarking is mandatory under Omani law and warned that violations will result in penalties.

Officials said the campaign is part of ongoing efforts to uphold market integrity and strengthen consumer confidence in the gold and jewellery sector. Similar inspections will be extended to other governorates in the coming weeks.
