MUSCAT : Organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, through the Oman Animal and Plant Genetic Resources Centre (Mawarid), the forum aims to position Oman as a hub for knowledge-based industries rooted in genetic resources.

GenoBusiness 3 will shine a light on the vast economic opportunities linked to Oman’s biodiversity, focusing on how genetic resources can be transformed into value-added products. The event seeks to promote investment in genetic data and knowledge-driven industries, foster partnerships between research institutions and businesses, and encourage both local and international collaborations that support a sustainable and innovative economy.

Participants will include a distinguished group of Omani and international experts from the Netherlands, Italy, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Singapore, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. Leading voices from biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, personal care, perfumes, and academia will engage in panel discussions and specialized sessions.

Dr. Mohammed bin Nasser Al Yahyai, Director of Mawarid, highlighted that the forum will address four central themes: food, medicine, elegance, and sustainability. “The programme will feature two days of discussion sessions and presentations with international experts, alongside Omani researchers and innovators,” he said. An accompanying exhibition will also showcase cutting-edge products and ideas developed from genetic resources, particularly those rooted in Dhofar’s rich natural heritage.

Dr. Al Yahyai emphasized that GenoBusiness 3 serves as a “leading national platform for showcasing the economic opportunities inherent in genetic resources and transforming them into value-added products, contributing to a knowledge- and innovation-based economy.”
