DOHA — Hamas’s signal of acceptance of key elements in US President Donald Trump’s proposal to end the Gaza war has drawn widespread international praise, with world leaders and institutions calling it a pivotal opportunity to halt the conflict.

The development, described by Trump as “unprecedented,” has been met with cautious optimism across the Middle East and beyond.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry welcomed Hamas’s statement, highlighting its “readiness to release all hostages” and backing Trump’s demand for Israel to immediately cease its attacks on Gaza. Egypt also applauded the move, praising the US leader’s “realistic political vision” and urging all sides to rise “to the level of responsibility required” to achieve peace and stability.

In Ankara, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hailed the Hamas response as “constructive and a significant step toward achieving lasting peace,” and called on Israel to “immediately stop all its attacks.” French President Emmanuel Macron echoed the sentiment, urging that the commitment “must be followed up without delay” to seize the opportunity for “decisive progress towards peace.”

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that “peace in Gaza and the release of the hostages are within reach,” while UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed encouragement, urging all parties to “seize the opportunity” to bring the conflict to an end.
