MUSCAT : The citizen’s death marks the second fatality linked to the consumption of contaminated bottled water imported from the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In an updated statement, the ROP said: “Following the statement issued regarding the poisoning incident involving an Omani family and an expatriate woman, the Royal Oman Police regrets to inform the public that the citizen who had been exposed to the same contaminated water passed away shortly before the statement was drafted. Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return.”

The initial incident, reported on 29 September 2025, involved an Omani family and an expatriate woman who consumed the tainted bottled water. The expatriate woman died shortly after the incident, while the citizen was hospitalized in critical condition. At the time, authorities believed the citizen had recovered.

Subsequent laboratory testing confirmed that the water was contaminated, prompting immediate action from authorities. The contaminated product has been withdrawn from local markets, and the import of all types of bottled water from Iran has been officially banned as a precautionary measure.
