MANILA – Philippine authorities said the death toll from the violent earthquake had reached 26 dead and 147 injured.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in the Philippines stated that the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck off the island of Cebu in the central Philippines resulted in the destruction of at least 22 buildings, in addition to the human losses.
Earthquakes are a frequent occurrence in the Philippines, which lies within the Pacific ‘Ring of Fire’, an area prone to earthquakes and volcanoes.
