UNITED NATIONS : Syrian leader Ahmed al-Sharaa told world leaders on Tuesday that Syria’s journey has been marked by both “pain and hope,” describing it as a struggle between good and evil that has tested the country for more than six decades.
Addressing the General Assembly, al-Sharaa said he came “from Damascus, the capital of history and the cradle of civilizations,” to share a story of repression, deprivation, and eventual resilience. “For long years, we’ve suffered injustice and oppression. Then, we rose in claiming our dignity,” he declared.
He hailed what he called a “unique Syrian achievement,” referring to what he described as the victory last December, and said the solidarity between the Syrian people had helped resist sectarianism and attempts to divide the country.

“The Syrian story is a story of struggle, of emotions, and of hope for a future built on unity,” al-Sharaa said, pledging to continue efforts to safeguard Syria’s sovereignty and identity.
