DHL on Tuesday announced its strategic partnership with Oman Aviation Group (OAG) launching a dedicated storage facility at Muscat International Airport. “This is clearly in line with DHL’s ecommerce growth strategy,” he said.
Global e-commerce sales posted their biggest increase of the pandemic thus far in June, with volume increasing 31% annually — up from 23% in both April and May, per ACI Worldwide.
Along with OAG, DHL will develop a 50,000 sq metres of storage capacity close to the apron at Muscat International Airport dedicated to air logistics. According to Osman, as a start, DHL is planning to operate four flights a week. “Our new storage facility in Oman will become the leading hub in the region. We are planning to have 3- 4 flights a week to start with and we will increase the frequency later,” he added.
“I am proud to announce this logistics partnership that will see in its initial phase a new DHL central storage facility at Muscat Airport City—a partnership agreement that not only underscores DHL’s vital role in the region, but which serves as a stamp of approval for Oman National Aviation Strategy 2030 to transform Oman into a versatile hub for global air logistics and e-commerce. The new facility creates a seamless operation for DHL by offering efficient operation and time savings to its customers. In the cargo business, it can easily be argued that time is money more than in any other business,” said Mustafa Al Hinai, GCEO of OAG said.
