MUSCAT – This step aims to enhance transparency and effective communication between medical personnel and community members within healthcare institutions, contributing to the consolidation of a culture of patient safety.
The Ministry emphasised that the policy underscores the patient’s right – and that of their families – to access comprehensive information related to their health, diagnosis, treatment, and any medical events that may occur during care. By promoting open disclosure, the Ministry seeks to improve communication channels between medical staff and patients, ultimately contributing to higher standards of healthcare quality.
The new policy aligns with the Ministry’s second strategy of the five-year patient safety plan, and reinforces Oman Vision 2040’s commitment to enhancing healthcare quality and ensuring patient safety.
“Disclosure is also a fundamental pillar of patient engagement and empowerment, and is one of the main objectives of the Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2021–2030, which calls for making patients active partners in the healthcare system,” the Ministry explained.
