MUSCAT – The efforts were carried out with the active involvement of the local community, as part of the second phase of the national campaign to combat invasive bird species.
The campaign, which resumed in early July, targets species such as the common myna and the Indian house crow.
Issa bin Abdullah Al Yahmadi, Chairman of the Sub-Committee for Combating Invasive Birds in South Al Batinah, stated that the continuation of the campaign reflects the Authority’s ongoing commitment to restoring ecological balance and safeguarding Oman’s natural habitats. He pointed out that teams are continuing their work to monitor and track the sites where these birds congregate and take the necessary measures to limit their spread.

He added that invasive birds pose a significant threat to the local environment, as they compete with native species for food resources and habitats, potentially leading to the extinction or deterioration of some local species.
It’s worth noting that this initiative comes within the framework of joint cooperation between the Environment Authority, relevant authorities, and the local community, with the aim of protecting natural resources and achieving sustainable development goals.
