Muscat: The Oman Football Association (OFA) has announced a series of decisions and measures following recent events surrounding the national youth team’s semi-final clash against Yemen in the GCC U20 Championship in Saudi Arabia.

In a statement issued on Monday, the OFA confirmed the suspension of the assistant coach of the national youth team and the media coordinator, barring them from engaging in any activity with national teams on a temporary basis. An independent committee has been formed to investigate the incident and submit its findings.

The OFA further revealed that it has submitted an official letter of protest to the Gulf Football Association, citing the circumstances that led to what it described as a loss of control during the match against Yemen and the consequences that followed.

In addition, the OFA addressed the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in writing regarding the hosting conditions of the Olympic team’s match, highlighting concerns that player safety was compromised under inappropriate circumstances. The Association stressed that such issues could negatively impact the rights and preparation of Oman’s teams ahead of the upcoming AFC qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup scheduled in Doha.

The statement reiterated the OFA’s commitment to safeguarding the rights of Oman’s national teams, confirming that it will pursue all necessary procedures through official channels to uphold the integrity of Omani football and ensure fair treatment in continental and international arenas.
