MUSCAT – The campaign, implemented by the Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, will run for eight consecutive months across all wilayats of the governorate.
The campaign aims to vaccinate various animals against priority epidemic and infectious diseases. This will contribute to prevention, reduce infection rates, and curb their spread. It is a fundamental pillar of the national strategy to combat animal epidemics and a key support for enhancing biosecurity and maintaining the health of animal herds.

The vaccinations will cover goats, sheep, and cattle against diseases such as Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR), pox, enterotoxaemia, foot-and-mouth disease, lumpy skin disease, and rabbits.

Eng. Younis Khamis Al Saadi, Director of the Animal Wealth Department in South Al Batinah, stated that the campaign is a continuation of efforts from previous seasons. He noted that in 2024, approximately 315,804 goats, sheep, and cattle were vaccinated, with a total of 518,187 vaccine doses.

He added that through these campaigns, the directorate seeks to increase the number of vaccinated animals annually, limit the spread of animal diseases, and enhance diagnostic and treatment programs. This will ensure the health of the herd and achieve sustainable development for the agricultural sector.
Al Saadi appealed to livestock breeders to cooperate with the field veterinary teams and take the initiative to vaccinate their animals. This, he emphasized, is crucial for protecting the animal population, ensuring the sustainability of livestock production, and enhancing its contribution to food security.
