Muscat: The agreement, signed in Muscat under the patronage of His Excellency Salem bin Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, will see Oman’s promotional identity featured across all Ironman championships worldwide, including websites, media content, and promotional campaigns. The initiative is part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to spotlight Oman’s diverse tourism assets and strengthen its reputation as a global adventure hub.

As part of the deal, Oman will host the first annual full-distance Ironman race in Muscat every November. The event will feature swimming in open seas, cycling routes through iconic landmarks, and multi-stage running races. Additionally, the “Discover Oman Ironman 70.3” race will debut in Muscat in February 2026 as the official Middle East Championship, offering athletes regional titles and qualification opportunities for the World Championship. A second 70.3 race is also scheduled for Salalah on October 25, 2025.

His Excellency Azzan bin Qasim Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry for Tourism, highlighted the significance of the partnership, calling it a “major step toward reinforcing Oman’s position as a leading destination for endurance and adventure sports.” He emphasized that the initiative aligns with Oman Vision 2040 by diversifying tourism, attracting foreign visitors, and generating direct economic benefits across hospitality, aviation, and transportation sectors.

The Ironman Group’s CEO, Scott Deru, praised Oman’s natural beauty, cultural richness, and readiness to host global sporting events, noting the partnership will bring “world-class racing experiences” to the region.

The Ministry also stressed that the Ironman series will encourage local community participation, promote public health, and create new opportunities for SMEs linked to the tourism and sports sectors.
