RIYADH – Secretary-General of the Council, Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, said: “This announcement reflects the growing regional and international support for the two-state solution and embodies the principles and values enshrined in international conventions and resolutions in support of the Palestinian cause”.

Al-Budaiwi urged other countries to recognise the State of Palestine, calling for unified efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, the Arab Peace Initiative, and international legitimacy resolutions.

Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévost had announced on Tuesday that his country would recognise the Palestinian state during the UN General Assembly meetings.

The minister explained that his country would join the signatories to the New York Declaration, paving the way for establishing a “two-state solution,” stressing that Belgium would also impose “strict sanctions” on Israel.
