MUSCAT – In its statement, the Department stressed that truthful answers to blood donation form questions are essential, as every piece of accurate information helps protect lives. Donors were urged to respond sincerely to all medical and behavioural questions on the form, even if the topics are sensitive.

“If you feel uncomfortable about any question, you have the full right to withdraw from donating, without the obligation to provide answers that do not reflect the truth,” the statement read.

The Department warned that concealing health information can lead to the transmission of serious diseases, such as HIV (AIDS) or hepatitis, even if the donor appears healthy and their test results are initially normal.

“This is because some viruses cannot be detected immediately after infection, as they go through an incubation period that can extend from two weeks to several months before showing up in laboratory tests. Therefore, concealing any health or behavioural information could put the lives of others at risk,” it added.
