Over 850,000 students begin new academic year across Oman

More than 854,000 students return to 1,303 schools as Oman begins its 2025/2026 academic year, supported by over 66,000 teachers.

Muscat: More than 854,000 students will return to classrooms across Oman tomorrow as the new 2025/2026 academic year begins in 1,303 schools spread across the Sultanate’s governorates.

According to the Ministry of Education, the student body includes 430,461 male students and 424,079 female students, highlighting near gender parity in enrollment across public schools.

Teaching and Administrative Staff
For the current academic year, the total number of teaching staff in public schools has reached 66,386, comprising 20,788 male teachers and 45,598 female teachers. In addition, there are 11,287 administrative and technical staff supporting school operations.

Special education schools will be staffed by 223 teachers and 62 administrative employees, reflecting the ministry’s continued focus on inclusive education.
