MUSCAT : Dr. Shamsa bint Ahmed Al Harthi, Acting Director of the School and University Health Department, said student health services are a cornerstone of public health. The ministry’s programs aim to protect students while equipping them with the knowledge and skills to lead healthy lifestyles.
The plan includes comprehensive medical check-ups for students in grades one, seven, and ten to detect health issues early, as well as vision tests for grades one and four, and hearing screenings for first graders. These measures, Dr. Al Harthi explained, are designed to address potential problems that could impact learning. In addition, health education initiatives will target all students, parents, and teaching staff to encourage positive behaviors.
For universities, the Ministry is ensuring readiness of campus clinics, providing services such as youth counseling, mental health support, first aid, chronic disease follow-ups, and health promotion programs. Regular supervisory visits and staff training are also part of the preparations.
