MUSCAT – Shrimp represent one of Oman’s most valuable marine resources, prized for their nutritional benefits and increasing demand in local and international markets, according to the Ministry.

The season is especially significant for South Sharqiyah, Dhofar, and Al Wusta governorates, where shrimp fishing plays a key role in supporting coastal livelihoods and contributing to the regional economy.

Oman’s waters are home to 12 different species of shrimp, though only four are commonly targeted by fishermen using traditional nets. These include white Indian shrimp, white shrimp, tiger prawns, and dotted shrimp. The primary habitats for these valuable crustaceans are concentrated around Masirah Island, Mahout, and the coastal regions of Al Wusta and South Sharqiyah.
