Muscat: The Ministry of Education has announced a wide range of new training programs, infrastructure projects, and quality initiatives to strengthen the education system in line with Oman Vision 2040.

According to the Ministry of Education, this year’s teaching workforce includes 66,379 teachers across 1,303 public schools, supported by 11,183 administrators and technicians. Special education schools will also see 241 teachers and 46 administrators resume duty. The Ministry has completed the appointment process of new teachers who passed written exams and interviews to meet staffing needs in various disciplines.

Saif bin Mubarak Al Jalandani, Director General of Educational Supervision, confirmed that an induction program for new teachers will be held on August 27 and 28 to provide practical training, professional skills, and orientation on educational developments. A similar program was held in July for 399 newly appointed supervisors and administrators, focusing on leadership and management skills.

The Ministry is also implementing a national plan to prepare 100 schools for external review by the Oman Academic Accreditation Authority in Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah, and South Al Batinah governorates. This includes strengthening self-assessment mechanisms, ensuring quality standards, and enhancing institutional performance.

Dr. Intisar bint Abdullah Ambusaidi, Director General of the Specialized Institute for Vocational Training, outlined several professional development initiatives for teachers and school leaders this year. These include the New Teachers Program, Equal Educational Opportunities Program (covering 872 schools), Advanced School Leadership training, and School Sports Experts Program. Other initiatives target risk management, e-learning, and subject-specific skills in Arabic, English, science, mathematics, and special education, alongside training in sign language, autism spectrum support, and modern curricula.

In Al Wusta Governorate, Director General Majid bin Nasser Al-Sinawi confirmed the appointment of 336 new teachers, raising the total staff to over 1,390, serving 8,440 students across four wilayats. He highlighted recent investments worth RO 2.1 million in new schools, classrooms, labs, and maintenance projects to meet growing student needs and improve the learning environment.

Textbooks, furniture, and supplies have already been distributed to schools nationwide, ensuring full readiness for the start of the academic year.
