MUSCAT – The incident, which occurred on the morning of July 11, 2025, remains etched in the memories of the hospital’s emergency team.

A call at 7 am from the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority reported a severe traffic accident involving three vehicles on Saih Al Khairat Road in the Wilayat of Maqshan.

Within moments, the Emergency and Crisis Room was activated. Sixteen individuals were received at the hospital — five tragically deceased and eleven others injured, including families and children. Dr. Amer bin Salem Al Hamar, recounting the event as part of the Ministry’s ‘stories from the emergency department’, described the scene with deep emotion.

“They are not just passing cases — they are our family,” he said, reflecting the emotional toll the day had on the entire medical team.

Despite the magnitude of the tragedy, the emergency department continued to function at full capacity. Simultaneously, the team handled three unrelated critical cases — a stroke, a heart attack, and angina pectoris — ensuring no disruption in care for other patients.

“Thank God, all cases were dealt with full readiness – despite the accident and the multiple injuries. This did not disrupt the emergency work in providing healthcare and health care to other patients,” stated Dr. Al Hamar highlighting the professionalism and readiness of the staff in responding to one of the most challenging days the department had faced.

Calling this “A touching story of an emergency case”, the Health Ministry stated: “Defining moments and a day that the emergency team at Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Dhofar Governorate will never forget – receiving 16 people, including 5 deceased and 11 injured on the morning of July 11, Khareef 2025. The medical team’s voice expresses sorrow and regret, feeling the depth of the pain: They are not just passing cases, they are our family.”
