Washington: The remark came during a CNBC interview on Tuesday, where Trump also threatened to raise tariffs on Indian goods.
President Trump, who secured re-election in November 2025, addressed growing speculation about his political future during the televised interview, stating, “A lot of people want me to do it. But … my thinking is, we have a long way to go. I’m focused on the current.”
While the U.S. Constitution prohibits any individual from serving more than two terms as president, Trump has frequently toyed with the idea of defying that precedent. In March, he told NBC News that there are “methods” through which he could run again, adding, “I’m not joking.”

At a Nevada rally in January, Trump stoked further speculation, telling supporters it would be “the greatest honour of my life to serve, not once but twice or three times or four times,” before later clarifying that he meant serving two terms.
Now 82, Trump is already set to become the oldest person ever to hold the presidency when he begins the next term in January 2029.
