MUSCAT – In 2024, Oman recorded 4,122 divorce cases, representing an increase of 7 percent compared to the previous year. The figures translate to an average of around 11 divorce filings per day.
Despite a slight dip in the overall number of marriages, from 15,400 in 2022 to 14,716 in 2023, the rise in divorces has continued to surpass the decline in new marriages. In comparison, divorce cases in 2023 totalled just over 3,828, down from 4,160 in 2022. The figures also show that 2021 experienced a notable 12 percent increase in divorces from the previous year.
Regionwide distribution showed that Muscat Governorate recorded the highest number of divorce cases in 2024, with 1,161 cases, followed by Dhofar (687), South Batinah (704), North Batinah (671), and North Sharqiyah (264). South Sharqiyah registered 249 cases.
In terms of marriage registrations, Muscat again topped the list with 4,868 marriages, followed by North Batinah (2,955), South Batinah (2,031), Dakhiliyah (2,042), Dhofar (1,684), South Sharqiyah (1,306), and North Sharqiyah (1,228).
