Istanbul: The new energy corridor is expected to dramatically improve Syria’s daily electricity supply, from just 3–4 hours a day to up to 10 hours, according to Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar.

Speaking at the official launch, Bayraktar announced that the pipeline could deliver up to two billion cubic meters of gas annually, meeting the energy needs of nearly 5 million Syrian families. “We are inaugurating the Turkish-Syrian natural gas pipeline as a symbol of Turkish-Syrian friendship in the energy sector,” he said.

Bayraktar thanked Syria, Azerbaijan, and Qatar for their contributions to the project, which he described as a milestone in post-war recovery and regional cooperation.

The minister also revealed plans to enhance Syria’s electricity infrastructure by increasing Türkiye’s electricity exports to Syria by 25 percent initially, followed by further expansions through new interconnection lines.

Bayraktar met with Syrian Energy Minister Mohammed al-Bashir in May to discuss technical cooperation aimed at rebuilding Syria’s power grid and natural gas infrastructure. He stressed Türkiye’s readiness for any constructive cooperation that would contribute to enhancing regional stability and meeting the basic energy needs of the Syrian people.
