LONDON : In a televised address on Tuesday, Starmer emphasised that the recognition of Palestine is intended to revive the two-state solution and push for a lasting peace process.

“I have always said that we will recognise a Palestinian state as a contribution to a proper peace process at the moment of maximum impact for the two-state solution,” Starmer stated. “With that solution now under threat, this is the moment to act.”

The British government also confirmed it has begun air-dropping aid into Gaza, with the first deliveries containing £500,000 worth of life-saving supplies. “The Palestinian people have endured terrible suffering in Gaza because of a catastrophic failure of aid,” Starmer said. “We see starving babies, children too weak to stand — the suffering must end.”

The move follows growing international pressure to address the humanitarian crisis and rekindle peace talks. UN agencies have repeatedly warned that Gaza is teetering on the brink of famine, with essential food and medical supplies running critically low.
