BEIJING : According to the National Climate Center, the average number of hot days across the country has reached eight since the start of the flood season, while overall average temperatures have climbed to the second-highest level ever recorded for the period.
Jia Xiaolong, Deputy Director of the center, revealed that 45 national meteorological stations reported record daily highs. One of the most extreme was in Xingping City, Shaanxi Province, where the mercury soared to a staggering 43.1°C.
As sweltering conditions persist, authorities are stepping up public health alerts. On July 2, the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the China Meteorological Administration issued a joint warning highlighting the risks posed by extreme heat, especially for vulnerable populations.
