6.3-Magnitude earthquake jolts central Indonesia, no casualties reported

A powerful 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Sulawesi Island in central Indonesia early Thursday morning, shaking parts of the Tomini Bay region, authorities confirmed.

JAKARTA – The tremor was recorded at 4:41 a.m. local time, with the epicentre located approximately 110 to 113 kilometres southwest of Gorontalo city, and just 6 kilometres off the coast, according to regional and international monitoring agencies, including Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
Despite the quake’s strength, no casualties or significant damage have been reported so far, and no tsunami warning has been issued.
