DOHA : The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) announced on Tuesday that it is engaged in discussions with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the host city election process for the 2036 Games. The confirmation comes as Qatar continues to build on its sporting momentum following its successful hosting of the FIFA World Cup in 2022 and the AFC Asian Cup in 2024.
“We currently have 95% of the required sports infrastructure in place to host the Games, and we have a comprehensive national plan to ensure 100% readiness of all facilities,” said Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, President of the QOC, in a statement to Qatar News Agency.
He emphasized that the plan is embedded in a broader vision for a socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable legacy, aligning with Qatar’s long-term development goals.

With Doha already set to host the Asian Games in 2030, following a successful run in 2006, the nation presents a compelling case for Olympic readiness. If awarded, Qatar would become the first country in the Middle East to host the Summer Games, underscoring the region’s rising presence on the global sporting stage.
Other confirmed bidders include Indonesia, Turkey, India, and Chile, with several other countries — including Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Egypt, Germany, and Canada — expressing interest or exploring the possibility of entering the race.
