MUSCAT – The judicial enforcement officers from the Directorate General of Consumer Protection Authority in North Batinah Governorate, discovered the unauthorised activity during routine inspection rounds. The workers were found operating in an environment lacking basic health and safety standards, in violation of the Consumer Protection Law.
Accordingly, a task force was formed to investigate the matter, and it was confirmed that the workers were indeed carrying out furniture manufacturing and upholstery in an unauthorised place.
The CPA cited Article 3 of the Consumer Protection Law, which explicitly prohibits trading in goods or providing services without meeting health and safety requirements and obtaining official approval from competent authorities. The operation also violates Article 19 of the Executive Regulations, which bans deceptive practices relating to the nature, type, source, or safety of any goods or services.
Legal action has been initiated against those involved, and the CPA has reiterated its commitment to continuing inspections and crackdowns to ensure consumer protection across Oman.
The Authority urges everyone to report any violations through the approved official channels.
