WARSAW : According to initial results from experimental drilling, the newly discovered Wolin East offshore oil field — located just 6 kilometers from the coastal city of Świnoujście near the German border — holds an estimated 200 million barrels of oil equivalent in recoverable crude oil and natural gas reserves.
The company behind the discovery hailed the find as a game-changer, noting that Wolin East stands as the largest conventional oil field ever found in Poland. It is also among the most significant conventional discoveries in Europe in recent years.
Oil extraction from the site is expected to begin within three to four years. Once operational, the field could supply between 4% and 5% of Poland’s annual oil demand for several years.
