Dubai: The verdict follows a civil lawsuit filed by the victim, who claimed that the defendant had used abusive language and written slurs through comments on her photos, videos, and private messages. The plaintiff had initially demanded Dh150,000 in compensation, citing both emotional and financial damage caused by the online harassment.
The case had earlier led to a criminal conviction, with the court confirming the use of profane language through an information technology medium, as documented in the criminal case file. The civil court, upon review, found sufficient grounds to award Dh30,000 as compensation for the moral harm sustained by the plaintiff.
The ruling also directed the defendant to bear all legal costs and expenses associated with the case.

While the court acknowledged the plaintiff’s emotional distress and damage to dignity, it rejected her claim for financial damages due to the lack of evidence proving direct material loss. The court clarified that, under the UAE Civil Transactions Law, moral damage—such as emotional pain or harm to reputation—warrants compensation, even if no financial loss is incurred.
