NEW DELHI : The partial resumption follows a “Safety Pause” the airline voluntarily initiated to conduct comprehensive checks on its Boeing 787 fleet and manage operational delays caused by regional airspace closures over Pakistan and parts of the Middle East.

Effective August 1, several key routes will return, including a newly announced 3x weekly service from Ahmedabad to London Heathrow, which temporarily replaces the 5x weekly Ahmedabad–London Gatwick route. This route reshuffle is scheduled to remain in effect through September 30.

Air India has also ramped up frequencies on major international sectors:

Delhi–London Heathrow: Increased to 24x weekly flights from July 16

Delhi–Zurich: Resumes 5x weekly service from August 1

Delhi–Tokyo Haneda: Returns to daily operations from August 1

Delhi–Seoul Incheon: Reinstated to 5x weekly starting September 1

Some routes, however, will continue to operate with limited frequency through September. These include services from Delhi to Birmingham and Paris, and transatlantic flights to New York (JFK) from both Delhi and Mumbai, each reduced by one flight per week. Services to Chicago, Toronto, Vancouver, and San Francisco remain trimmed, with gradual recovery anticipated.

Air India’s Nairobi service will continue until August 31 before taking a break in September. Meanwhile, several routes will stay suspended until September 30, including:

Amritsar–London Gatwick

Goa (Mopa)–London Gatwick

Bengaluru–Singapore

Pune–Singapore

Passengers on affected routes will be contacted directly with options for rebooking or full refunds.

By October, Air India aims to operate over 525 weekly international flights to 63 destinations, marking a near-complete return to its global network.
