Muscat: Both Aleksandra Miroslaw and Sam Watson claimed gold at the IFSC World Cup in Chamonix, France, redeeming themselves after setbacks at the previous event in Kraków, Poland, for different reasons.
Miroslaw, who settled for bronze on home soil in Poland, was determined to reclaim the top spot. In Chamonix, she did just that, clocking an impressive 6.19s in the final to edge out world champion and Kraków winner Desak Made Dewi of Indonesia, who posted a 6.46s for silver.
Rounding out the women’s podium was USA’s Emma Hunt, who added bronze to her collection. Hunt also set a new personal best secured her medal with a 6.35s finish.

While Aleksandra Miroslaw redeemed a bronze from Kraków with gold in Chamonix, her fellow Speed world record holder Sam Watson had a different form of comeback, bouncing back from a false start in Poland to claim the fifth gold of his career in spectacular fashion.
Focused and composed, Watson returned to defend the Chamonix title he won last year and did so with a dominant performance. In the gold medal race, he posted a blistering 4.65s, narrowly missing his personal best.
Watson’s final opponent was Kazakhstan’s Rishat Khaibullin, who had been steadily improving throughout the rounds. But in the final, his time wasn’t enough to beat Watson’s near-record pace. Khaibullin claimed his second career silver medal, while USA’s Zach Hammer took the bronze medal.
