Washington – US President Donald Trump has described the recent catastrophic flooding in Texas as a “100-year catastrophe”, as rescue operations continue and the death toll rises. Speaking to reporters, Trump extended his condolences to the victims’ families and confirmed that he plans to visit the affected areas later this week.

The unprecedented floods, particularly in Kerr County, have already claimed the lives of at least 78 people, including several children. Among the missing are a group of girls and a summer camp counsellor who were caught in rising waters along the Guadalupe River. Federal emergency teams, including the Coast Guard and FEMA, are on the ground conducting rescue and recovery efforts. Trump commended their work, stating he would personally assess the devastation on Friday.

On the international front, Trump indicated that a breakthrough in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas could be imminent. He suggested that a deal involving the release of hostages and a potential ceasefire in Gaza was “likely” to be finalised this week, although he stopped short of providing concrete details.

Domestically, Trump said the White House would be sending out formal trade deal letters early in the coming week, with expectations that most negotiations would be concluded by July 9. The move is part of a broader economic push ahead of upcoming elections.

When asked about Elon Musk’s rumoured plans to launch a third political party, Trump dismissed the idea as “ridiculous”, insisting the Republican Party remained strong and united. He also made brief comments on the Washington Commanders’ new stadium deal and said he had been in informal contact with both Ukrainian and Russian officials, although no formal talks were confirmed.
