Salalah’s Atin Tunnel opens ahead of schedule, boosting Oman’s road network

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has officially opened the Atin Tunnel Project in Salalah, a landmark infrastructure upgrade worth RO 7.5 million.

Muscat: The newly launched project includes over 9 kilometers of upgraded road infrastructure, most notably a 1.35-kilometer dual carriageway tunnel.

The project also features a major expansion of November 18 Street, now boasting four lanes in each direction over a 2.7-kilometer stretch. Additionally, the development includes bypass roads in four directions (totaling 1.3 kilometers), seven service roads, and enhanced entry and exit points to streamline traffic flow.

Engineer Saeed bin Mohammed Tabuk, Director General of the Directorate General of Roads and Land Transport in Dhofar Governorate, stated that the project achieved a 97% completion rate—24% ahead of schedule. He highlighted that a local company executed the work, underscoring the capabilities of national contractors in delivering large-scale infrastructure projects.
