Muscat: Gresini Racing’s Álex Márquez is on the road to recovery after undergoing successful surgery following his heavy crash during Sunday’s Dutch Grand Prix at the TT Circuit Assen.

The Spaniard suffered a fractured left hand that required immediate medical attention after colliding with Pedro Acosta’s KTM on lap six. After being assessed at the trackside medical center, Márquez was transported to a hospital in Barcelona, where surgeons successfully operated on the injury late Monday evening.

The 29-year-old’s crash came as a huge blow after showing promising pace throughout the weekend, qualifying in the top ten and looking competitive in both practice and the Sprint race.

Meanwhile, all eyes are also on Luca Marini as the Italian gears up for his long-awaited return to MotoGP. Marini, who has been sidelined for over a month after crashing while preparing for the Suzuka 8 Hours Endurance race.

Marini was hospitalised in Japan for 10 days with a pneumothorax and several contusions that initially raised serious concerns. However, the 27-year-old has been working intensively on his recovery and has already completed private training sessions to regain strength and mobility. He’s scheduled to participate in a two-day private test in Brno this week. If declared fit, Marini is expected to rejoin the grid aboard his Repsol Honda at next weekend’s German Grand Prix.

As Márquez begins his recovery and Marini eyes a return to the grid, MotoGP heads to Germany with anticipation and intensity running high.
